Lollapalooza is back for its 10th year this weekend, Friday-Sunday. Why should this matter if you’re stuck here in Utah (and won’t be at Warped Tour)? Because for the first time, Lollapalooza will be live-streamed from Grant Park, Chicago HERE on Red Bull TV…all…weekend…long. Headliners this year include Eminem, Outkast, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Lorde, The Avett Brothers, and Foster The People. (Full lineup HERE).
130 Artists. 3 Live Channels. 200+ hours of footage (P.S. there are only 72 hours in the weekend.)
That’s a bit overwhelming, we know. So we thought we’d give you a little advice to make your weekend on the couch as, uh, productive as humanly possible. First, make the headliners your priority. But if you miss them, don’t sweat it. Footage will be up shortly after each set. Second, there are 3 live channels at any time, so choose wisely! Third, if you’re not sure which other bands you should watch, below are a few suggestions.
If you like…
Rock: Cage The Elephant, Royal Blood, Kongos
Female Rockers: Meg Myers, Warpaint
Alternative: The Kooks, Bombay Bicycle Club, Grouplove
Sexy Men: The 1975
Electronic: Phantogram, CHVRCHES
Alt/R&B: Jungle, Blood Orange
Alt/Pop: Bleachers, San Fermin
Acoustic-esque: Hozier, Vance Joy, Courtney Barnett
Utah Locals!: Desert Noises
If you’re lucky enough to actually be attending the festival, here are some tips from some of the Lolla performers themselves.
Realistically though, you’ll probably be watching from your couch or your bed. Here are some tips if you’ll be going the couch-potato route: Charge your laptop; get up and stretch every – oh – 6 hours; stay caffeinated so Lolla doesn’t turn into nap time; snack up – once you’re on the couch, you won’t move till the day’s over and you know it (Jon Smith would suggest Oreos); tell your mom beforehand NOT TO INTERRUPT you. You're on a very important musical journey that may or may not change your life.
Happy Lollapalooza! If you’re watching live throughout the weekend, tweet @X96 updates with the hashtag #lollafromthecouch (or #lollalive if you're that lucky).
