FIN! and looking forward to 2013...

Well, I decided to put of some of our favorite albums of 2011 up a little early this year. I have to say there were some pretty big disappoints for me from some of my favorite bands The Rapture (normally my favorite band to snowboard to), The Beastie Boys, Arctic Monkeys, Dredg had an amazingly awful album, Cold War Kids lost the piano I loved in their songs and my attention with it, The Decemberists surprised me with the most boring thing I heard all year with "The King Is Dead." On the other hand, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Red Hot Chili Peppers "I'm With You" though I was prepared to hate it. I was bummed by The White Stripes official break-up as my Facebook was flooded with condolences from friends only to have Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears fill in the bluesy hole in my heart. I could go on and on. I am X96's cranky critic and music director. 2011 is a year where folk-rock launched into the cosmos with Mumford and Sons and a sing-songy English woman couldn't not be avoided no matter where you went. Here are the top ten albums of 2011 from some of our staff. We argue over music all the time. I will follow up this blog with some favorite picks from some folks in Utah that influence some of my music tastes. -Corey

I don't want you to ever assume that I am a cool guy. Yes, I have a cool job--there is no question about that. But as a person, I'm just a nerd. And I can prove it. Today at lunch, I went to meet my lovely wife Boofy at her new office. We slipped away and went to a restaurant where we ordered our food and enjoyed our meal. I started out the day wearing a yellow T-shirt (to match the yellow shoes I'm wearing, of course). During the course of the meal I somehow managed not to spill anything on me. This in itself is somewhat of a significant accomplishment. As we stood up to go, I noticed that there was a tremendous ketchup and (hopefully) chocolate smudge all over my shirt.
It was from the edge of the table and I must have leaned my chest against it while eating. There was no way that I could clean this off in the restroom, and I didn't want to run around all day with this mess on my shirt.
Kmart to the rescue!
Fortunately, there is a Kmart next to my wife's new office, and I spent $9 on a shirt that is actually quite cool! I have to admit, this Kmart shirt is damn sexy.
And that is the story of my lunchtime adventure.

I have to admit that I've never thought of myself as a musician; however, the opportunity to go crazy on the accordion was hard to resist. Here I am getting funky on Brogan Kelby's accordion a couple of nights ago! I don't need Guitar Hero, I have an accordion! Remember that Brogan will be at the X96 Big Ass Show on October 8th at the Gallivan Center with Panic! At The Disco, Neon Trees, Anberlin, Switchfoot and others.
