Ten Bands that We Were "Thinking" About For the Big Ass Show Richie T |

Ten Bands that We Were

Now that we have announced the lineup for the X96 Toyota Big Ass Show. Here are some artists that we “thought” about inviting but, unfortunately, just couldn’t make it.

1. Nickelback One of our employees suggested Nickelback… we had to let him go. 2. Creed *See Nickelback* 3. Daughtry Let’s be honest with one another here, you would only show up to sing that one song about coming home. Aren’t people over American Idol artists? 4. Anberlin The boys of Anberlin are currently heading overseas to say goodbye to their Australian, European, and other friends across the globe before heading back to the states for one last time. The thought of saying goodbye to one of their favorite cities earlier than intended was too much for them. Instead, they’re sticking us on the end of their final tour. Expect to see them October 17 at The Complex. 5. U2 Bono, The Edge, and the other guys were too busy writing new music, writing other superhero musicals and saving the world. They couldn’t be bothered to make an impromptu stop in Utah. 6. Taking Back Sunday They just played two soldout back-to-back shows with The Used three months ago! What more do you want from these guys? 7. Foo Fighters Dave Grohl has been way too busy with his new HBO series Sonic Highways and working on a new album for the Foo Fighters. He’s also been seen swimming with the otters, so the man has a lot on his plate.

Dave Grohl finds peace among these furry aquatic animals.

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers The chili peppers are locked away in their studio working on new music and doing who knows what else. Unknown sources have told us that they won’t make contact with anyone, except the pizza man, until the new album is complete. 9. Blur But only on the condition that they would play Song 2 in loop. They wouldn’t go for it. 10. Kid Rock?

If you missed it, here is the BASH lineup: A Day To Remember, Neon Trees, Phantogram, Capital Cities, Broods, Nightmare and The Cat, and Priory. There are more artists that will be added to the lineup within the next couple weeks!

IT'S NEW MUSIC TIME! jon | Mid Day

IT'S NEW MUSIC TIME!

New stuff today! Let’s face it, so far this year the new music front has been somewhat light. Things are starting to pick up though! Last month we saw some new Coldplay stuff and a new Black Keys album which I loved. So you can imagine how stoked I was when I woke up yesterday to a new Rise Against song in my email. I was quite the happy camper. . Actually scratch that. I hate that phrase as I have never seen someone who is both happy, and a camper.

We're about to be eaten by bears.

Back on topic, the new Rise Against album does not come out for another few weeks, but the new track titled “I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore” was 100% kick ass. Of course, you can catch the song on X96, or you can use the world wide web and watch the video here.

The other track I’m excited about is a new song from Spoon. If you’re a fan you saw the cryptic teaser titled “R.I.P.” (oooh scary!). Turns out that actually stands for “Rent I Pay” which is the first single from the upcoming album “The Want My Soul”. They debuted the song yesterday on NPR.

I liked NPR when they were just a garage band.

The studio version of “Rent I Pay” is available now, and the album is penciled in for August 5th. Enjoy!

XOXOX

St. Vincent Filling In For Kurt Cobain This Weekend

St. Vincent's new self-titled album has set me straight. I had her pictured as some hippy-like, singer/songwriter, but I had her all wrong. All wrong I tell you. Ms. Clark is a punk in the best possible way and this weekend when HBO airs the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame induction concert this Saturday night St. Vincent will be filling in where Kurt Cobain used to stand.  I had no plans on watching this until I saw this clip today of her singing "Lithium."

MCA Day and Break Dancing Monks

I am so ashamed of myself for missing MCA day.  Adam Yauch, MCA, sadly passed away on May 4, 2012.  Even if you didn't love their music you had to have some respect for them.  They never sold-out (unless you consider letting "Star Trek" use "Sabatoge" selling out).  In memoriam some guys dressed as Buddist Monks and got down to some finer Beasties cuts.  Check out the video.
