RFH Interviews: Wicked Tuna, Saints & Soldiers, & The Bunny Ranch

Captain Shackleford from the TV show Wicked Tuna: North vs. South talks to Radio From Hell about old North vs. South rivalries, tuna season, and ICCAT - conservation of tuuuuuuuna fishhhhhhh!

LISTEN BELOW!

Captain Britton Shackleford and his family live in North Carolina where he has been able to fish commercially. This is a relatively new way of handling fish which was able to make him stand out amongst other fisherman for National Geographic’s show Wicked Tuna: North vs. South. Captain Shackleford’s family have been involved in catching and producing seafood since 1670: “I tell people all the time, fishing is not what I do, fishing is what I am.” He explains that a "good" fish is deteremined by color, fat content, amino acids. Will the ocean ever run out of fish? Captain Shackleford says no - as long as America stays part of the ICCAT International Commission For the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas then the Blue Fin Tuna can stay safe in the ocean.

National Geographic’s Wicked Tuna: North vs. South premieres Sunday at 10 pm.

Saints & Soldiers: The Void Filmmakers Interview with Radio From Hell

Radio From Hell Sat down with Adam Able & Ryan Little to discuss their new film: Saints & Soldiers: The Void

LISTEN BELOW

Where did you film Saint & Soldiers: The Void? How many of them are there?

This is the third one. And we filmed this one in the foothills of Alpine, Cottonwood Heights in the old paper sugar mill, and at the Utah State Hospital, that has this castle behind it, in Provo.

This isn’t a continuation of the other ones is it?

No, all of them are individual stories that are thread together to explore the humanity within war and people in circumstances on either side of the conflict and the decisions that they make.

You can find out more about the film here

Interview with Dennis Hof with Radio From Hell

Dennis Hoff from the Bunny Ranch talks about his new show King Of The House, plastic restraint tape that doesn’t stick, and a segment about being psychoanalyzed that will be premiering Thursday August 14th at 11 pm on “Hooker Box Office” (HBO).

LISTEN BELOW

Two psychiatrists analyzed Dennis Hof on his show. “There’s a whole segment that they analyzed me with a psychiatrist and I can’t wait! I thought this is something that would never air. The first time, I'm trying to be honest with you, because I'm like this is going to be on TV and then the second time I just kind of let [it] down and winded up giving it to them the…'whole Hof experience'."

End of Summer Goings-On

Is the impending doom of “the end of summer” turning your last weeks of sunny freedom into a lazy, lackluster sob fest? Let me guess, you’re not going to do anything this weekend because all of the fun stuff has supposedly already happened? Well I am here to tell you that there are still plenty of fun and interesting things that are taking place this weekend that will most assuredly get your blood pumping with summer spirit.

In the mood for a little mood music? Tonight you have two choices: OK Go is playing The State Room and Ben Kweller is going to be at Urban Lounge. And tomorrow we get Ben Folds at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. You can find info for all three events Here.

Looking to broaden your horizons and let a little culture in? Well, why not give Broadway a try? The smash hit Wicked is only gracing Capitol Theatre’s stage for a few more weeks. Don’t miss your chance to see this great show. You could also hit up Western Round-Up, a fun filled, FREE, farmers market event that is only happening today. Activities include food vendors, live music and a special screening of “Hotel Transylvania”.

If you’re looking for a cool night under the stars then head up to Pioneer Park for their outdoor “Pioneer Park Picture Show”. Tonight’s showing is the always classic Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Better see it now before the sequel hits theaters in November. The movie starts at nine P.M. tonight and is free of charge.

And let’s not forget the great sports/athletic events that Salt Lake has to offer. Go out and catch one of The Salt Lake Bee’s three home games that are happening this weekend. And if baseball isn’t your thing, then get your butt to the Salt Palace and feast your eyes upon the hundreds of different sports retailers that are at the Outdoor Retailers summer Market.

And last but not least, we have an exiting new Real game going on tomorrow night. it's the 2013 U.S. open cup final rematch happening at Rio Tinto Stadium. They are up against D.C. United and in order to keep their sell-out streak alive we need 1,000 of you guys to get tickets and cheer our guys on. Anyone who is interested in tickets can call 801.727.2700.

well, there you  have it people! Everything you need for a fun weekend right at your finger tips. stay safe and have fun!

Six Song Mash-ups Richie T |

Six Song Mash-ups

Have you ever wondered what one band’s song would sound like with one another artist’s music and/or lyrics mixed in? Well that is called a “mashup.” It is always interesting to hear your favorite song mixed to the music of someone else. Just like a cover song, sometimes they suck, sometimes they rock, and sometimes they’re just… “meh.” Here are six mashups that have been handpicked for your listening pleasure:

“Car Radio” by Twenty One Pilots/”Heartbeat” by Childish Gambino

This features the music of “Car Radio” with the rap melodies of Childish Gambino combined with a verse from Twenty One Pilots. You can listen to more Twenty One Pilots/Childish Gambino mashups here. They all go really well together.

“Speed Of Sound” by Coldplay/ “This Twilight” by Nine Inch Nails

We hear the sounds of Coldplay mixed with the vocals of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. If you have ever listened to the original version of “This Twilight” the instrumentals are a lot darker, giving the track a more sinister feel. Coldplay’s instrumentals provide a more upbeat version to the Nine Inch Nails song.

“Islands” by Young The Giant/“Intro” by The XX

If The XX were to put vocals to “The Intro” I’d imagine that it would sound a lot like this. Sameer Ghadia’s falsetto vocals work perfectly with the beats provided by The XX.

“Do I Wanna Know?” By Arctic Monkeys/“Waiting For The Rapture” by Oasis

It wouldn’t take a lot of effort to mash these songs together, considering they both have the same beat and tempo. Oasis’ vocals work well with the tune of “Do I Wanna Know?” as well as being mixed in with the vocals of Alex Turner.

“Little Secrets” by Passion Pit/“What You Know About That” by T.I.

This mashup changes a rap song into an extremely catchy dance song. T.I.’s rap has been mixed with the sounds of Passion Pit along with the chorus of “Little Secrets.”

“Animal” by Neon Trees/ “Still Into You” by Paramore

These two go together a little too well. It’s almost as though Neon Trees re-wrote “Animal” to the tune of “Still Into You.” Haley Williams does sing the chorus once, towards the end. Other than that, this features the vocals of Tylar Glenn with the instrumentals of Paramore. But it’s not too far off from something that Neon Trees could have written.

Do You have a favorite mashup that hasn't been included here? Let us know! We would love to hear it!

REVIEW: This Guy Is Currently Winning the Coldplay Hating Contest

Blame Chuck Klosterman for this trend: unadulterated Coldplay hate.  When talking about the band's song "Yellow" from his book, "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs" he is annoyed by the overly-simplistic lyrics from Chris Martin by boiling down Martin's theme to "brilliantly informing us that stars in the sky are, in fact, yellow." White people culture has only been easier to make fun of since then.  Sites like Stuff White People Like would be the soft slug version and you can go on from there.

Coldplay is releasing their new album, "Ghost Stories" today and so we are once again reminded that hate is alive and well on the internet. Mr. Agreeable's review on The Quietus of the new album on the site is something.  It must have been keyboard agony censoring all the strong and lovely words wielded to express a very defined and direct point of view about the new album.

Take it for what you will.  If you hate Coldplay or and love crass rants this review is still a bit of a drag after the first few paragraphs.  I did have some favorite lines though:

"'Another’s Arms' begins with an androgynous, anaemic yelp that is quite possibly the whitest moment in all of popular f***ing culture."

"Finally, the f***ing title track itself. Chris wonders if he himself is “just a ghost”. Tell you what, Martin, you woeful f***ing waste of a snail’s time, here’s one way of f***ing finding out - why not run into that f***ing brick wall head first? Twenty times, just to be f***ing sure?"

and

"No, as f***ing ever, Chris Martin’s here to suck all the f***ing joy out of the room like a giant f***ing Happiness Hoover!"

Perhaps some levity might have made this review more digestible.  You may still get a chuckle out of it. Read the fully hateful review here.

I am going to put my headphones on and make up my own mind.

-Corey
