For all those who haven't heard, we have moved studios!!! I know, we have only been talking about moving for the past...uh.. forever; but, just so you know our new office is located at 50 W Broadway(300 S). So, I know what you're thinking and no, you can't pick up your prizes and concert tickets at the old Trolley Corners stations. We won't be there, so don't try. It is a giant building with "Broadway Media" on the side. You can't miss it.
It looks like this!
Broadway street(or 300 S, whatever you want to call it) is full of history. This new building/home to X96 is about to join this historic part of town. Let's take a look at what else is on Broadway!
Pictured above is the old Zephyr club, located on 301 S, West Temple. This club, closed since October 2003, used to be home many great live acts such as Morrisey, 311, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and many more. Now it just sits there and takes up space. There has been talk of turning it into a parking lot, but so far nothing has been done.
This old Deli was established in the 1960s by a german couple, the Linners. Since the death of founder, Erich Linner in 1993, Linner's hasn't had much business and is now closed.
Squatter's Pub(147 W Broadway) has become a hub for local brews in Salt Lake City and has been a longtime advocate of local business for the community and is powered by BlueSky wind power
Broadway Hotel was built shortly after the completion of two major rail depots in the city. Built circa 1905, this is on eof the earliest hotels in Salt Lake City.
Okay, enough with the history lessons. Now let's show you our office and our shiny new toys!!!
(Since when did we get an Atari in the new office?! Oh wait, it's just editing equipment. Maybe I can still get it to play some old pitfall games..)
Attention, attention! This is it! The final days and final prices of X96! We're closing our doors forever!
Well, not entirely. We're actually just moving to a much better studio in a couple weeks, and we're packing up our old place. One of the remaining remnants of old technology was the CD collection on the wall in our Trolley Corners studio. These have all been ripped into our gigantic hard drive long ago, and they won't be making the journey to the new place. They will probably end up in my basement.
This morning, Richie T. and the Radio From Hell interns took the discs down and boxed them up. Now it looks funny in the old studio. It was sad to see these old dust magnets go, but technology moves forward. I felt the same when we moved from our old West Temple studio in 1998 and into a new studio that didn't have a turntable. I will keep you posted with photos of our big move. We should be in our new place around July 11.
Yes, the rumors are true: we are moving! Moving is always a time filled with nostalgia, reminiscing "good times", and reverence. Just kidding, moving BLOWS! We couldn't be more excited to get out of this dump. here are a few things that we will *ahem* "miss" about our current studio:
The "amazing" wiring throughout this building:
We will definitely miss all of these loose wires hanging out of the walls everywhere. Nothing says home like safety hazards!
All the random dead plants:
Are these suppose to be some kind of ironic motivational posters? Plants are suppose to add atmosphere, life, and creativity to your environment. The only thing these bring to our workplace is death; reminding us all that we are gonna die, so might as well quit our jobs now and rot away.
Our broken appliances:
Listen, the only things that a flat screen TV is good for are netflix marathons and Call of Duty tournaments. Neither of these happen on that TV, so it's useless. No one knows how to use that copy machine (no one is sure if it actually works, to be honest) and what good is a printer that DOESN't ACCEPT PRINTER PAPER!
Our "Motivational" posters:
We really don't know how these got here... but we can't wait to have them GONE. FOREVER. Even if calling Justin Beiber a Lesbian is kinda funny, we'd still not prefer to see his face around here.
All this random s***:
We are done with all these rusty sinks, randoms rooms full of other station's crap, and empty pizza boxes lying around that give me nothing but FALSE HOPE!!!! Some days, it's almost like we need the guys from hoarders to come help us out because some people can't organize their crap! AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO DIS!! On a side note, I could really go for some pizza right about now.
...And whatever this is:
I see this everyday... and everyday I wish I could unsee it.
We will start moving next week. Our new address will be 50 West 300 S in Salt Lake City
