New Black Keys Song/Video

I am going to attempt to make my own version of this video today. I just need to find the right location and the right motel office in Salt Lake to stand in front of. I suggest you do the same and send it to me. Make sure you watch this full screen in 1080p and dance to it.

Fall Music 2011

Well lookie-loo, them leaves is changin' and there's pumpkin-flavored beer on the shelves (the worst idea ever). But you can't enjoy a beer flavored after squash without some good tunes.  So I've put my ears through torture, fear, bad lyrics, some laughs and finally to some albums I think are worth your (or your mom's) hard-earned monies. Note: some content may be NSFW.

Ben Folds "The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective" (3 disc edition) - This isn't just a greatest hits collection but more of an archive with great live Ben Folds cuts, a couple new Ben Folds Five songs and some sweet cover songs: George Michael's "Careless Whisper", Ke$ha's "Sleezy" and The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights."  There is also a single disc edition but come on, spulrge a little.

Justice "Audio, Video, Disco" - I wouldn't say it is as compelling as their last album but dancy enough and engaging enough to be called, "worthy."  As far as electronic music (to use the most basic description without getting into the five-million sub-generes) goes, this is cream of the crop.

Spank Rock "Everything Is Boring and Everyone Is a F---king Liar" - Remeber when Prince used to be funky and make some pretty great music?  Me either, but I have a few greatest hits albums to remind me.  Anyway, Spank Rock is the missing link beetween electro-funk and hip-hop. The opening track, "Ta Da" is about the best hippity-hop track I have heard in a long time.  But don't let that worry you, haters - this is one of the few albums to blur genres in the best possible way.

Patton Oswalt "Finest Hour" - Not music, obviously, but the funniest album you will hear this year.  He even brings back the famous KFC routine in the epilogue form.  Like the best comics you will get a few things to ponder such as the danger of gifted children, the things we do alone in cars and what to do when someone buys all the ham at the deli.

and finally...

The Black Keys "El Camino" - not out until December 6th but we will get their new song this week so be listening...

Honorable Mentions:

Red Hot Chili Peppers "I'm With You"

CSS "La Liberacion"

Nouvelle Vague "The Singers"

The Rapture "In The Grace of Your Love"

Hard-Fi "Killer Sounds"

That's it for this edition. Now go forth with ears wide. - Corey

LISTEN: New Fiona Apple Track

Needless to say Fiona has been M.I.A. (get it?) since 2005's "Extraordinary Machine" but she has risen with a new track from her upcoming album, "The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do."  Yup, that is really what it's called.  How nice would it be to only have to produce work every 7 years?  Either way, I am glad she did.  I've always had a soft spot in my cynical heart for Fiona.  Enjoy the simply soothing song.

- Corey
