The Beastie Boys take on Monster Energy Drinks, and win

The Beatsie Boys have been busy this week. First they took on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new movie “Sabotage” by telling Ahnold that he would not be allowed to use their song of the same name to promote the box office flop’s upcoming Blu-Ray release.  I'm sure Arnold was not pleased.

Arnold made this face

The Beastie Boys have a LONG tradition of no letting their work be used in ads.  So  people should know by now that unless you're doing a Star Trek movie, you're probably not going to get permission.  Even so, Michael "Mike D" Diamond told a Manhattan Federal Court last week that they were offered "a lot of money" to lend their hit to the film, but they aren't "fans of Mr. Schwarzenegger's recent work," and added that the potential collaboration "felt like too much of an endorsement."

Can we do it??

Meanwhile Mike D and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovits wontheir copyright case against Monster Beverage Corp. On the eighth day of trial yesterday, a Manhattan jury found in favor of the Beasties, agreeing that the energy drink maker used the group's songs in a 2012 promotional video without permission. Monster argued unsuccessfully that an employee mistakenly believed the company had the okay to use some Beastie classics.

Really, they said it was cool.  Trust me.

That verdict brought home one-point-seven-million-dollars in damages. DAAYYYUUUMM. The group had originally sought up to two-point-five-million-dollars for copyright infringement and false endorsement. During his testimony, Diamond also said there most likely won't be any upcoming Beastie Boys releases. For those of us who are fans this needs no explanation, but he told that he and Horovitz "can't make new music" after bandmate Adam "MCA" Yauch's 2012 death from cancer.

MORE Soundgarden reissues in the future?! jon | Mid Day

MORE Soundgarden reissues in the future?!

By now you know that I’m the official X96 90’s geek. So you can guess how stoked I was about Soundgarden's deluxe "Superunknown" reissue hitting stores this week. Most consider that to be the best Soundgarden album, and no doubt the best selling one. (I’ve always had a hard time choosing) But you can see how big a fan I was by this picture of me in 1994 rocking my SUPERUNKNOWN t-shirt. I was pretty damn cool.

I had hair like Fabio!

But now I’m even MORE excited! Get this, Soundgarden guitar slinger Kim Thayil tells "Billboard" there is plenty of bonus material to go forward with a "Badmotorfinger" re-release!  Still no word on new material, but this is good enough for me. Now let’s hope for a Utah stop on their upcoming summer tour with Nine Inch Nails. I’d straight up punch a toddler for tickets to that show.

Maybe this one!

IF they are able to pull off a Batmotorfinger reissue, it will be just in time for the record's 25th anniversary in 2016. I may bust out some “Rusty Cage” on my drive home today to celebrate.

Limb Bizkit to release a CASSETTE?! jon | Mid Day

Limb Bizkit to release a CASSETTE?!

Let’s face it. Limp Bizkit is one of those bands you love to hate. They had their moment in the sun in the late 90’s when Alternative rock was inexplicably angry. I mean, the economy was good. We were not at war with anyone. What the Hell were we mad at?

Nuke 'Em was mad because he wanted baggier pants.

But in a perfect example of things that just WONT go away, Limp Bizkit is putting out a new single. I can’t wait to ignore it. But I guess for the first time we can give them points for creativity. Fred Durst and Co. will be turning back the clock by releasing the single exclusively on cassette.

That’s one of these things for you youngsters.

The Limp Bizkit Facebook page says that "Endless Slaughter" (Nice name) will be available only at their live shows in "about two weeks or so." The track comes from Limp Bizkit's long-in-the-works new album "Stampede of the Disco Elephants," which is expected to drop sometime in the summer. I actually had to seek out, and like their page to write this so you owe me.

“I can count to this many!”

In the meantime the band is on their European tour. So far the only US gig they have booked is a headlining appearance at the Aftershock festival on September 13th in Sacramento, California. I don’t know what that is, but I know I'm not going.

XOXO

New stuff from Faith No More?/ jon | Mid Day

New stuff from Faith No More?/

Could we be getting NEW Faith No More music this year? Please Lord, let this happen.  I don't ask for much..   We did see a FNM reunion tour recently sans guitar man Jim Martin. So I guess that's something.

I’m a huge Faith No More fan. In fact, Angel Dust was my very FIRST “Parental Advisory” CD. I had my older brother buy it for me, and to this day I hide it from my mom. Anyway, back on topic..

It's been under my mattress for 22 years..  I need a new matress.

Faith No More’s Mike Patton recently started a Twitter account for the band. That’s a good sign. THEN he participated in that oh so important internet tradition, the selfie. Sigh. He said the recent "reunion thing" was fun, but "now it's time to get a little creative." COULD that mean a new album? If so I doubt he’d ever get Martin back in the lineup. Martin is still no over his mystical feud with the band and has only spoken about them publicly once since 1992.

This was how we new what CD's we wanted in the 1990's

In the meantime, however, FNM fans can look forward to seeing the band in London on July 4th and in Poland on July 5th. I won’t be going. Feel bad for me.

Dirty Heads Interview with Richie T

From: Hunington Beach, CA

Favorite Snack

Duddy: My Favorite snack… Mini-Pies. I make these at home. They’re literally like thick apple pie, but really small. But it still looks exactly like an apple pie. I call them “Pieders.” Pie Sliders.

“Pieders, Where Every Day Is Your Cheap Day”

Duddy: I have bought the website and patented it [“Pieders”]. The world will know the joy of holding a pie in your hand and eating it without any silverware.

Old Rap Tapes

Duddy: It is literally like ten dudes in a garage, my dad built a soundproof room in our garage. …We would go there after parties… I had this little four-track, mini-disc recorder and a cashio keyboard. We would make the dumbest beats and everyone would have rap on the song.

Utah Reggae-Rock scene

Duddy: You[Salt Lake City], are more of a mountain town. And this more like beach music… Utah, especially, has an amazing scene for out type of music.

escpeccially, has an amazing scene for out type of music.
