Happy Fathers Day and stuff..

It's Fathers Day weekend!

I'm not so big with the mushy stuff. If you want to say something nice to someone, you should say it to them personally and not bore everyone to death with it. BUT, since it's Father's Day, and since I'm told that writing a daily blog is now a job requirement, I thought I'd take a moment to blog about my Pops.

That's my Pop!

My Dad is THE quintessential badass. In my 36 years on this earth I've seen him engage in no less than 10 fights with complete strangers. Not arguments. Not disagreements. I'm talking full on, punching and rolling on the ground ass kickery. Everything from a rival Little League coach, to some guy at Disneyland. He tried to fight the cashier at a Checker Auto Parts once when the guy made fun of ME for having pink hair. Something he himself gave me shit for on an hourly basis. I was married and moved out at the time, so he'd have to call me to meet his personal quota. I'm pretty sure all Dad's do that though.

Your hair makes you look like one of them guys what kisses other guys.

Growing up in the 80's meant that my Dad had to compete with TV's greatest Dad's. Sure, Willy from Alf was awesome, but did he ever buy his punk rock-toy collecting son and his friends Arby's when he caught them ditching school? No. Did Cliff Huxtable ever jump out of a boat while riding "It's A Small World" after barfing on a nice young couple from Oregon sitting in front of him? I'll bet you 24 Jell-O pudding pops that he didn't. Sidenote: I've also seen him puke in public 7 times, and not once did he ever help clean it up. Luckily for me, even though he was very old school growing up, he only barely kicked my ass for putting a black and yellow X96 sticker on his motorhome when I was 15.

Instead he made me star in one of the Terminator movies.

The man made sure I knew to "kick ass at everything you do, or don't do it" and that "Not everyone is going to like you. Jesus was perfect and even HE had people that hated him". He's one of the most politically incorrect people I've ever met, yet shows everyone more respect than they deserve, and he's never once NOT stood up for me.

So Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad's this weekend. If you need me, I'll be watching Nascar and eating Popeye's with my old man on Sunday.

Harrison Ford injured! We have exclusive photos of the incident. ..Kind of. jon | Mid Day

Harrison Ford injured! We have exclusive photos of the incident. ..Kind of.

Legendary actor, Harrison Ford was injured yesterday while filming the much anticipated sequel to Star Wars. GASP! According to UK's the Mirror News, Ford, 71, was filming a scene on board the Millennium Falcon when a piece from the set fell and broke Ford's ankle.

Our highly paid team of experts have recreated the scene with great detail.

Ford slumped to the ground, and was quickly attended to by set staff and other actors. A statement from Disney reads: "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of 'Star Wars: Episode VII,'" adding "He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care."

I might be getting carried away here.

Sources have told several news outlets that Ford was actually airlifted to a Hospital in Oxford that specializes in fractures. I highly doubt the injury was severe enough to warrant a chopper medevac, but it's Harrison Ford. If Han Solo gets so much as a bloody nose on your set you best call in air support.

Luckily GI Joe was nearby to help with the airlift.

It's unclear exactly how long Ford will be out recovering, and what, if any changes will be made to the script going forward. For those that don't aleady know, Ford is one of several original "Star Wars" stars returning to the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel. He's joined by fellow alums Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew.

In the meantime Disney says shooting will continue as planned while Ford recuperates.

Jack White IS NOT coming to SLC jon | Mid Day

Jack White IS NOT coming to SLC

FALSE ALARM!

Ok, yeah that was my fault.. Here's the story. I saw the news today that Jack White had added tour dates to his "Lazaretto" tour, and I got all bummed that I didnt see a Utah date on there. So I started wrting a post which would include my amazing MSPaint skillz for my blog. As I'm writing and MSPainting away, I see the following under tour dates "--Oct. 10 -- Salt Lake City, UT (The Depot)--" Holy S***! How did I miss that? I was excited, and then pissed that I'd have to re-write my entire post, and then excited again. Apearantly I'm still learning how computers work...

How do I cook a Hot Pocket in this thing?

Turns out, what I saw was the tour schedule for Canada's favorite indie band "The New Pornographers". They have a new album out on August 26th, and WILL in fact be at The Depot on October 10th.  the page had scrolled up while I was feverishly painting Jack White's amazing cheek bones.  So my bad if I got your hopes up. As of right this second, there are no plans for a SLC stop for Jack White. Which is sad, because I think he and I would have had a great time shopping for hats.

Suck it, Smith!  I already bought the last one.

Jack White IS adding a few more stops to this tour, whic now includes a two-night stand in Seattle, a show at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, and a tour-wrapping set at the Bleacher Theater at Boston's Fenway Park. The one thing I DID get right was the two night stay in Detroit. What the Hell dude? DETROIT?! Over SLC?!! Where's the math on that one. I demand a re-count.

Anyways, sorry for getting your hopes up. I'll spend the next hour or two trying to figure out how to blame it on Ritchie T.

OH! And just in case you're wondering.. Here are the official dates for The Lazaretto Tour:

6/11 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Mayan 6/12 - Pomona, CA @ Fox Theater 6/14 - Manchester, TN @ Bonaroo Music and Arts Festival 6/25-29 - Pilton, UK @ Glastonbury Music Festival 6/26 - Dublin, IE @ Royal Hospital Kilmainham 6/29 - Paris, FR @ L'Olympia 6/30 - Paris, FR @ L'Olympia 7/01 - Amsterdam, NL @ Heineken Music Hall 7/03 - London, UK @ Eventim Apollo 7/04 - Gdynia, PL @ Open'er Festival 7/19 - Louisville, KY @ Forecastle Festival 7/20 - St. Louis, MO @ Fox Theatre 7/21 - Milwaukee, WI @ Eagles Ballroom 7/23 - Chicago, IL @ Chicago Theatre 7/24 - Chicago, IL @ Auditorium Theatre 7/26 - Newport, RI @ Newport Folk Festival 7/27 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Stage AE Outdoors 7/28 - Detroit, MI @ Fox Theatre 7/30 - Detroit, MI @ Masonic Temple Theatre 7/31 - Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre 8/01-03 - Montreal, QC @ Osheaga Music & Arts Festival 8/18 - Kansas City, MO @ Midland Theatre 8/20 - Morrison, CO @ Red Rocks Ampitheater 8/23 - San Francisco, CA @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium 8/25 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theater 8/26 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theater 8/28 - Vancouver, BC @ Deer Lake Park 8/29-31 - Edmonton, AB @ Sonic Boom 8/30-31 - Calgary, AB @ X-Fest 9/14 - Columbia, MD @ Merriweather Post Pavilion 9/17 - Boston, MA @ The Bleacher Theater at Fenway Park

IT'S NEW MUSIC TIME! jon | Mid Day

IT'S NEW MUSIC TIME!

New stuff today! Let’s face it, so far this year the new music front has been somewhat light. Things are starting to pick up though! Last month we saw some new Coldplay stuff and a new Black Keys album which I loved. So you can imagine how stoked I was when I woke up yesterday to a new Rise Against song in my email. I was quite the happy camper. . Actually scratch that. I hate that phrase as I have never seen someone who is both happy, and a camper.

We're about to be eaten by bears.

Back on topic, the new Rise Against album does not come out for another few weeks, but the new track titled “I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore” was 100% kick ass. Of course, you can catch the song on X96, or you can use the world wide web and watch the video here.

The other track I’m excited about is a new song from Spoon. If you’re a fan you saw the cryptic teaser titled “R.I.P.” (oooh scary!). Turns out that actually stands for “Rent I Pay” which is the first single from the upcoming album “The Want My Soul”. They debuted the song yesterday on NPR.

I liked NPR when they were just a garage band.

The studio version of “Rent I Pay” is available now, and the album is penciled in for August 5th. Enjoy!

The Beastie Boys take on Monster Energy Drinks, and win jon | Mid Day

The Beastie Boys take on Monster Energy Drinks, and win

The Beatsie Boys have been busy this week. First they took on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new movie “Sabotage” by telling Ahnold that he would not be allowed to use their song of the same name to promote the box office flop’s upcoming Blu-Ray release.  I'm sure Arnold was not pleased.

Arnold made this face

The Beastie Boys have a LONG tradition of no letting their work be used in ads.  So  people should know by now that unless you're doing a Star Trek movie, you're probably not going to get permission.  Even so, Michael "Mike D" Diamond told a Manhattan Federal Court last week that they were offered "a lot of money" to lend their hit to the film, but they aren't "fans of Mr. Schwarzenegger's recent work," and added that the potential collaboration "felt like too much of an endorsement."

Can we do it??

Meanwhile Mike D and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovits wontheir copyright case against Monster Beverage Corp. On the eighth day of trial yesterday, a Manhattan jury found in favor of the Beasties, agreeing that the energy drink maker used the group's songs in a 2012 promotional video without permission. Monster argued unsuccessfully that an employee mistakenly believed the company had the okay to use some Beastie classics.

Really, they said it was cool.  Trust me.

That verdict brought home one-point-seven-million-dollars in damages. DAAYYYUUUMM. The group had originally sought up to two-point-five-million-dollars for copyright infringement and false endorsement. During his testimony, Diamond also said there most likely won't be any upcoming Beastie Boys releases. For those of us who are fans this needs no explanation, but he told that he and Horovitz "can't make new music" after bandmate Adam "MCA" Yauch's 2012 death from cancer.
