Panic! at the Disco
Panic! at the Disco Listen to the Interview Here Richie: Lets talk about the show tonight and how has everything been going with the new album and the tour? Brendon Urie and Dallon Weekes: It’s great we got a new stage set up its going to be awesome. It’s great because were playing the news songs and it’s always great see the crowd react to that, but there are not a lot of moments where you can rest it’s just song back to back to back and its pretty fun. Richie: I heard that the last track on your new album is your vows to your wife is that right? Brendon Urie and Dallon Weekes: Uh, kind of. Actually we wrote private vows to each other. We didn’t want to do it publicly at the wedding we just kind of wanted a big party with everybody. And when I told her that she said well we’ll just do private vows and I said before we even discus that I just wanted to write a song for just how greatful I was to have met her and be with her. For this first time in my life I felt changed and I could talked about past experiences without guilt, I was kind of a different guy. It’s a pretty simple song too like there are now SAT words on it. It was a really nice moment out of nowhere out of left field and it’s the only on the record that does that. Richie: One of the things I love about Panic at the Disco are some of the tracks that never make the radio, I just love some of those gems like “Sarah Smiles”. Brendon Urie and Dallon Weekes: I think the same way too though like some of our favorite songs are songs that weren’t singles like the deep cuts, I think really music lovers really appreciate the stuff that most people wouldn’t know about. That’s where you really find out about the artist you kind of learn a little bit more. You keep hearing that album format is dead you know people don’t buy albums or listen to albums any more and that’s a real shame to me because to hear a completed piece of art by and artist is still special to me and important. CHVRCHES Interview for Meet The Bands

From: Glasgow, Scotland

The Pronunciation

A lot of people struggle with the pronunciation think that it's "chu-vur-ches" which is hilarious to me and baffling at the same time.

Previous band names:

The Runner Up choice was Shark Week.

"The Mother We Share" as their first single

We just wanted to go with what we felt was our strongest song or our most immediate song perhaps. Or even the song that best represents the sound of our band for the first time.

"Under The Tide"

I like that song a lot! It's an unusual choice. It doesn't have Lauren on lead vocals...Lauren writes most of the lyrics in the band so I never ask her what the songs are about. I have a feeling that it's a really sad story behind that song, but what it's actually about I have no idea.

Switching between lead vocalists

In terms of Martin being on lead vocals for that song, we never really plan out thinking, "Ok this is gonna be Martin's song, this is gonna be Lauren's song". We tend to kind of have both of them sing - whichever one feels right for the song - and that'll be the one that we end up going with. The song "We Sink" which is the second track on our album - that was going to be Martin on lead vocal right up until the last minute and then we decided to go with the Lauren version. I think it's good that we have two really good singers in the band as well because we get to vary things up a bit.

Nick Hexum Interview with Richie T

LISTEN HERE

Nick Hexum "The Brony"

My wife did get me a my little pony tee-shirt that I humbled myself and wore to Disney Land.

How is the Quintet different from 311?

It is a different thing. It's more vintage sounding. It's not heavy. Probably come out in a blazer. It's more of a kind of an upscale kind of deal. Definitely wanna encourage people to dance and come ready to party, but it's not a moshing kind of situation. It's a lot of improvisation, funky styles, solos, and we're gonna do some covers. We actually do this thing called the Dice Jam where we roll dice to pick tempos and keys and scales and then just go. So it's much more unscripted than anything I've ever been apart of.

Next up for 311

We just tweeted an announcement over the pre-order...There's 15 songs to the new record. It's coming out on March 11 - 3/11 day - and we're holding our big concert in New Orleans on that day.

Bear Hands Interview for Meet The Bands

The Name “Bear Hands”

I guess we had started the band while I was still in college with Ted. We recorded a bunch of demos right off; like I had already had the songs written and I was just looking for a band to get together to record them. And as soon as we did that we gave them to a little indie label that Ted had known the owner of, and he really dug it, and he wanted to take a meeting like really quick and we didn’t have a name. You know, we had like 3-song demos that this dude really liked but we didn’t have a name. So literally on the drive to this guy’s house in New Jersey we had to name the band. And Val our bass player had the name Bear Hands hanging around from a previous band, like rolodex of potential names and we settled on it.

“Giants” (single) – Where did the name come from?

That song name just fit. I remember writing both the verses in a spree. I don’t think I’d written the chorus yet – the “loving you more” line. But I had written both the verses like immediately just after having a really skeletal beat and for some reason the word “giants” came to mind when I was naming the Garage Band file or whatever and it stuck. That name just makes sense to me but it doesn’t really apply to the lyrics...There’s not a specific person that that “loving you more” line is about. But I have felt like that I loved someone more than the loved me. Universal experience.

Music Influences

If I had to name my pantheon – you know the greatest of all time – it would have to be Kurt [Cobain] and Bob Dylan and Notorious B.I.G. Those are the three gods of my music world.

Can't Read Music

No I don’t know how to do that. That’s embarrassing. At Wesleyan I took one semester of piano classes with this little Asian lady who was really not incredibly helpful. Didn’t learn so much there. I think I took maybe five guitar lessons when I was 12 or 13 from an overweight guy in some mini mall in Connecticut. Didn’t pick up much there. I started playing guitar like punk songs and stuff, and really once you learn the power chords you can play any punk song. I also was disinterested quickly in learning other people’s songs, so I really started to write my own even though they were really heinous and painful and awful in the beginning. It was just more interesting to me than learning what other people have done.
